Origin Stories of the Next Four Tirthankaras (Part 2)
A common theme in Jain tradition is that every Tirthankara’s soul resides in a heavenly realm as a deva before descending into a noble human lineage for the final birth.

7. Suparśvanātha

Past Life (Pūrva Bhava): He was a God in the Anuttara Vimāna after a life of severe penance as King Nandana (in Pūrva Videha). Parents: King Supratiṣṭha and Queen Pṛthvī of Vārāṇasī. Significance: His mother is said to have dreamt of a golden swing with two beautiful serpents on either side. He was born with a special auspicious marking of the Svastika on his side, representing four aspects of existence.

8. Candraprabha

Past Life (Pūrva Bhava): He was a God in the Anuttara Vimāna after practicing intense dharma as King Padmānabha (in Candrapurī region). Parents: King Mahāsena and Queen Lakṣmaṇā of Candrapurī. Significance: During pregnancy, his mother had a strong desire to drink the radiance of the moon. He was born with a skin color resembling the bright moon and a crescent moon symbol on his forehead, hence “Moon‑Light.”

9. Puṣpadanta (Suvidhinātha)

Past Life (Pūrva Bhava): He was a God in the Sarvārthasiddhi Vimāna after practicing a pure life as King Anandi (in the middle world). Parents: King Sugrīva and Queen Jāramitā of Kākapurī (or Bhadrilapur). Significance: His mother dreamed of an assembly of celestial beings worshipping a mountain of flowers. His name means “Flower‑toothed,” relating to a dental anomaly, or more commonly, “Good Discipline” (Suvidhi).

10. Śītalanātha

Past Life (Pūrva Bhava): He was a God in the Achyuta heaven after his pious life as King Vimalavāhana in Vatsadeśa. 1 Parents: King Dṛḍharatha and Queen Sunandā of Bhadrāpurī. Significance: His presence in the womb is believed to have cured his father, who suffered from a burning fever. His birth brought a feeling of “coolness” (Śītala) and peace to the kingdom, signifying his calming spiritual influence.
